Counting our blessings (Psalm 103:1-2)

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 103:1-2 (TM)
O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I'll bless his holy name! O my soul, bless God, don't forget a single blessing!

STORY:
One morning R.C. Chapman, a devout Christian, was asked how he was feeling. "I'm burdened this morning!" was his reply. But his happy countenance contradicted his words. So the questioner exclaimed in surprise, "Are you really burdened, Mr. Chapman?" "Yes, but it's a wonderful burden--it's an overabundance of blessings for which I cannot find enough time or words to express my gratitude!" Seeing the puzzled look on the face of his friend, Chapman added with a smile, "I am referring to Psalm 68:19, which fully describes my condition. In that verse the Father in heaven reminds us that He 'daily loads us with benefits.'"

OBSERVATION:
We might always feel it. Too often they go unrecognized. Acknowledgement seldom graces our lips. Our heart might be touched, but we wonder why. Our lives are filled with God’s blessings but we simply continue to journey down our path with little expression of understanding or acceptance.

The truth is this: God blesses us more than we know. At every turn there is a blessing… a truckload of blessings. We, on the other hand, zero in on the negative, the small splinter which might be giving us some pain. The blessings are just received as if they are expected instead of the acts from a loving and gracious God.

Opportunities abound for us to lift our voice is praising God for his rich and abundant blessings. Here is but a gentle reminder that we truly live a blessed life. Never take it for granted.  Everyone that God has placed in our lives is there as a blessing from the Almighty.

May we stop today and count our many blessings.

When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost

Count your many blessings, Name them one by one

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Chorus:
Count your blessings, Name them one by one

Count your blessings, see what God has done

Count your blessings, Name them one by one

Count your many blessings, see what God has done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings, ev'ry doubt will fly

And you will be singing when you look at others

With their lands and gold think that
Christ has promised
you His wealth untold
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

So, amid the conflict, whether great or small

do not be discouraged,
God is over all
Count your many blessings,
Angels will attend

Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.

PRAYER:
If we were honest with you and with ourselves, we really do not deserve the many blessings that have been poured out upon us. Thank God for doing it anyway!
